Much as I am not a fan of Catelyn Stark, she did seem to have the right of it in that Renly and his army are only playing at war. That isn't to say they couldn't shape up to be formidable, but at the moment it is only the size of the army that seems impressive. I think in that, the episode was faithful to the spirit of the books.

But as cute as Finn Jones is when he is being bested/jealous/petulant, I always imagined Loras as having a kind of hero-worship for Renly, a feeling of deeper purpose in what was between them, which makes the jealousy as the episode portrayed seem a bit out of sorts with what I'd read into his character. That could just be me, though.

I did get a grin out of Loras offering up Margaery and then Margaery offering up Loras in much the same way. Poor Renly, he didn't seem to know how to cope with the intrigues and machinations of the wily and very practical Tyrells.

Overall, Margaery, Brienne, and Arya ruled the episode and I loved it - and them :)

idk I just thought the jealousy was just Loras A. being a baby that he was beaten, B. in front of Renly and C. by a girl, and also Renly wasn't ~doing his duty~ by putting a baby in Margaery. But I agree, I always felt like their relationship was really deep and Loras suddenly being all pouty about it felt a bit out of place.

About your first point, I always maintain that Renly actually knew what he was doing in the war. Tyrion says something later on in ACOK, I can't remember the wording exactly, but something like Renly is waiting for the Lannisters and Starks to destroy each other by taking his sweet time to travel, so he can simply march into Kingslanding 'without having lost a single man'.

Seems like a good idea to me.
